Welcome to the HRPT Thursday Morning Track Workouts.  In conjunction with our regular Saturday long runs, these workouts aim to give runners of all abilities increased fitness to reach their goals.  For the novice or casual runner, these workouts will challenge you to a higher level of running.  For the competitive runner, track workouts are essential to reaching personal bests and to succeed in your races.

Where, When and Why?

Workouts are held at Calf Pasture Beach on Calf Pasture Beach Road.  It is not a perfect Oval, but it is a perfect mile!  We meet up at Norwalk Sailing School (Near United States Coast Guard Auxillary Flotilla) at 6:00am.  Why?  Because track workouts make you faster, build muscle (Fast Twitch ones), improve running form, and reduce injury.

Our Philosophy

HRPT workouts focus on two of three forms of speed work used by distance runners from 5K to Marathon.  10K race pace and Interval Training (5K race pace).  We will do a limited amount of Speed Training (Faster than 5K race pace).

We welcome runners new to the track.  Don’t worry if this is new to you, or you feel that track workouts are just for ‘fast runners.’  Posted workouts are suggested maximums.  These are coach led workouts and we are happy to customize a workout plan to meet your needs.

Paces

We will periodically do a Threshold test workout to determine your proper paces.  In the meantime, we encourage you to use the McMillan Running Calculator.  You can plug in a recent race time and goal race time, and the calculator will spit out suggested Training Paces.  We recommend using Mark Hadley’s temperature + Dew Point Adjustments in warm and humid weather to determine pace for the day.
